Role Overview

Producers provide leadership and oversight to the tech team. They invest in the team relationally and spiritually, foster creative collaboration and the pursuit of growth among the team, and ensure that services encourage everyone to respond to the Holy Spirit.

Investing in the Team Relationally and Spiritually

What to do During Rehearsal

  • Watch for anyone on the team that is isolated - help include them in conversation!
  • Help introduce people new team members to the rest of the team.
  • Don't be afraid to take time away from rehearsal to have a conversation or to pray for someone. People are more important than the position they fill, so it's okay to press pause on rehearsal if it's necessary.

Fostering Creative Collaboration and Growth

What to do During Rehearsal

  • “Make the rounds” during rehearsal to check in with each position. Check that they have everything they need and answer any questions.
  • Help troubleshoot issues that arise. Remember - training and empowering the team is a crucial part of this role! Some issues can be resolved by team members or can be great training opportunities.
  • Facilitate conversations between different positions that should be talking.
    • If FOH and online audio are dealing with the same problem, get them to work together on solving it.
    • Make sure that the video team is collaborating and working together smoothly.

Ensure That Services Encourage Everyone to Respond to the Holy Spirit

Our primary goal isn't to make services run smoothly. Our primary goal is to lead people in worship - which starts with being worshippers ourselves.

Sometimes, this looks like having a perfectly run service that is free of technical issues. Other times, it looks like stripping back the lighting design to match the direction that the Holy Spirit is leading us in worship. Perhaps it looks like stepping into a role during the sermon because a team member needs to respond to an altar call.

No matter what, our first responsibility is simply to worship, then lead others in worship.

The best time for us to make sure that services are free of distractions is during rehearsal and cue-to-cue.

What to do During Rehearsal and Cue-to-Cue

  • Looking through the Planning Center call sheet, talk with the worship leader, tech director, and/or communicators if any element is unclear or may require special attention from the tech team.
  • Collaborate with worship leader
    • Make sure the band and vocals have everything they need.
    • Ask about any times during the service that they expect there to be spontaneous or unplanned moments.
  • Collaborate with communicators
    • Confirm when communicators come on and off stage, when the teaching TV should come up and go down, and any other transitions that the tech team needs to collaborate on.
  • Before the beginning of service, walk through lobby to check audio and TV’s.
